About the idea and why it fits the COMMON mission.
COMMON SEEDS (CS) will unite independent seed producers with backyard gardeners on a regional basis. We will revolutionize the way these indy producers go to market by building the CS rack experience for POS and creating an online experience that helps simplify entry into backyard gardening. This will be accomplished through the provision of “right seed for right place” ethos in distribution, and at POS both in store and online. By aiming to make this process more efficient and effective for the farmer and the customer we believe we can seize market share in this rapidly growing sector and even stimulate additional market growth. Our baked in commitment to providing free seeds to community partners on a regional basis (school gardens, CSA’s, community plots, etc) will build additional awareness, goodwill and drive loyalty to the CS brand. This will likely be powered by customers who will be given the chance to buy up at POS (at cost plus admin %) and turn their seed purchases into one to one giving. Finally we will maintain a strict Non GMO policy with all of our seed product.
(Version four of our group description owes a massive debt of gratitude to a powerful voice in the seed world – Matthew Dillon. This idea will continue to evolve. Version four will not be the last vision for this brand but it’s better than version one. We are rapidly prototyping the vision as well as the business plan. I’m open to the journey and hope you are too. Ideas wanted.)
